I have attended and attend a number of such on going formation sessions or training programmes. I often put off myself soon the sessions begin - I know it already attitude. However, I was very attentive to everything you said. Firstly because you spoke sense and sensibility rooted in the realities of a Salesian Teacher. Secondly, your presentation was quite unlike others. I felt from the very beginning that you were not here to sell yourself rather with concern and with a mission.
The first projection you had on the wall was ‘Connecting .... This is what exactly we teachers miss in our day-to-day teaching; and you have brought it so clearly throughout you sessions how that alone can win a child, build a child, mould a child, give a sense of purpose for a child, .... Madam, believe all I have said .... because I have spoken from my heart and I mean every word I have said. You have been really wonderful, down to earth with practical application.

I offer my sincerest thanks for your invaluable discourse which has greatly impacted our teachers. You have delved into the psyche of young children and your views have enlightened and enlivened us. Your advice that 'responsible discipline engage both mind and heart' should be an important notion to be followed by all Teachers. Ensuring discipline with dignity seems imperative and the visual presentation of Mark Thackeray as a teacher is an effective testimonial to such an idea.
Two other very relevant thoughts have been introduced in your discourse, firstly that a teacher should win over a child with love and compassion and secondly she should also reason the behaviour of a child, where the priorily should be offered to 'ask' and not to 'assume'.
I, being an educationist is sensitive to the issue of educating a child in its truest sense. I possess the firm conviction that your presence and skilful dealing on the issue of instilling discipline and educating a child would help the teachers to reassess their responsibilities. The connotation of education has received a broader dimension through you discussion.
The Assembly of God Church School Asansol would adopt your views to usher in a more favourable and positive trend in educting a child. I am also contemplating on introducing postoral conselling and simultaneously ensure that each teacher can become a counsellor.

It has made the work of mental health professeionals like me, who work with school children, a lot easier having you as teacher counsellor cum liasion psychologist.
With your unlimited energy and enthusiasm, optimism and willingness to bring about a change in the mindset of the school authorities and parents and making them psychologically aware, you have made a diiference in an area that sorely needed it The schools that you are associated with have definitely got a better insight about a child's psychological make up, problems that a school going child may have such as ADHD, LD, and the various emotional and behavioural problems.
As a result when a child from such a school is referred to us, we know that we will get full cooperation from that school. Unfortunately this is not the situatiuon in mostt of the other schools in Kolkata. My association with Ummeed and Salony Priya has been long. I have attended various workshop conducted by her for leaders, teachers and students. She has conducted sessions for my teachers on discipline by design and motivation and many students’ issues like angermanagement, bullying etc.
I have been attending the basic counseling skills workshop forthe past six months. It has truly been an enriching experience. It has helped me to introspect and develop a deeper insight into myself. It has equipped meto be an effective listener and pickup nonverbal signals and understand then spoken word of students and faculty members. I have developed more a nonjudgmental style of leadership. Enabling me to understand the psyche of students. I have been able to better understand issues of adolescents and the students can understand that l am there for them. Positive Living Initiative, with the teachers of St Patrick’s Higher Secondary School and St Vincent’s High and Technical School, Asansol, re—kindled this sense of hope in the hearts of the teachers who attended this session. The calling of a teacher has become more difficult and challenging in the present times. This daylong session with Ms. Salony Priya invited us to view our profession as a celebratory picnic on a hill-side from which we can savour the gratifying achievements of the ‘already’ and have a glimpse of the unfolding mystery of the ‘not yet’.
The session was indeed a journey of recollection, introspection and realization of our roles as educators and the possibilities that can be explored to enable and empower the young minds and hearts that are put in our care. I remember you today out of great learning we had as a forum on the 27th of Feb. I had lots to write also on the day I had the learning but it was just a feeling that I had a great learning, guess wasnt enough push for writing to you. Today after less than a fortnight I have a bundle of happy experiences due to the change of understanding in conversing with my kids. Leadership in Excellence
Mrs. Salony Priya of Ummeed conducted a workshop on ‘Class Room Management and Teacher as a Counsellor’ on 2nd July 2011. The workshop was organized by Pearson Longman and attended by all the teachers of KSMS.
The four hours just flew by as Ms. Salony took the teachers on a journey through the minds of children, the impact that a few words and gestures of a teacher have to make or break a child’s hope for the future.
Comments like ‘The Best Workshop ever attended’ are apt to sum-up the participants’ view. The resource person was the strongest point of the programme.’ said the teachers. The workshop brought forth all learning about emotional changes of students. Things that
were taught in B.Ed. but had been lost in the daily humdrum of achieving targets and giving good outcomes.
Her lively, charming personality and heart-to-heart talk enamoured her to all present. She gave simple and fresh solutions to recurring problems that nagged teachers in their day-to-day work. The entire topic though heav was dotted with laughter and positive
energy emanating from her words.
